  • بنى في الفترة ما بين 447 و432ق.م.

  • وفي حوالي عام 500م تحول المعبد إلى كنيسة نصرانية
  • وبعد استيلاء القوات العثمانية على المدينة في منتصف القرن الخامس عشر الميلادي حول إلى مسجد
  • عام 1687م أصيب البارثينون بأضرار جسيمة عندما حاول الفينيسيون (سكان البندقية) الاستيلاء على أثينا
  • فقد كان الأتراك يستخدمون المبنى مخزنًا للبارود في ذلك العهد، وأدى انفجار بارودي إلى هدم الجزء الأوسط من المبنى

في 1687، تعرض البارثنون لأكبر دمار عندما هاجم البنادقة بقيادة فرانسسكو موروسيني أثينا، وحصـَّن العثمانيون الأكروبوليس and used the building as a gunpowder magazine. On 26 September a Venetian mortar, fired from the Hill of Philopappus, blew the magazine up and the building was partly destroyed.[1] Morosini then proceeded to attempt to loot sculptures from the ruin. The internal structures were demolished, whatever was left of the roof collapsed, and some of the pillars, particularly on the southern side, were decapitated. The sculptures suffered heavily. Many fell to the ground, and souvenirs were later made from their pieces. Consequently some sections of the sculptural decoration are known only from the drawings made by Flemish artist Jacques Carrey in 1674.[2] بعد ذلك، سقط معظم المبنى في غياهب الاهمال، وبُني داخله مسجد صغير.
