- Capture of Breda: Spanish troops take Breda by surprise.

- 25 سبتمبر - Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa، with a squadron of 23 ships commanded by Diego Florez Valdez, leaves Seville with a thousand people with the intention of closing and fortifying the Strait of Magellan and settling a colony there . A storm destroys several ships and forces the others to take refuge in the roadstead of Cadiz , delaying the departure until December . Off Patagonia , heavy weather disperses the buildings, which are driven from the Strait of Magellan by the winds and must take refuge on the coasts of Brazil. Florez Valdez returns to Spain, while Sarmiento de Gamboa perseveres in the face of the natives and the bad weather and lays the foundations of a fort and a colony. During his return to Spain , he was taken prisoner by the English. The small colony, called Fort-Famine , had to be repatriated in 1587 .
