الجغرافيا الحيوية إنگليزية: Biogeography هو علم دراسة توزيع التنوع الحيوي على المكان والزمان. وهو يهدف للكشف عن أماكن عيش الكائنات الحية ومدى غزارتها ولماذا.[1]
يمكن شرح أنماط توزيع الأنواع عند هذا المستوى من خلال مجموعة من العوامل التاريخية مثل الانتواع والانقراض والانجراف القاري والجلشرة والتقاط النهر بالإضافة إلى العوائق الجغرافية وموارد الطاقة المتاحة.
تاريخ
Edward O. Wilson, a prominent biologist and conservationist, coauthored The Theory of Island Biogeography and helped to start much of the research that has been done on this topic since the work of Watson and Wallace almost a century before.
