إليوت كارتر
إليوت كارتر بالإنجليزية Elliott Cook Carter, Jr. (و. 11 ديسمبر 1908 –ت. 5 نوفمبر 2012) مؤلف موسيقي أمريكي حاز على جائزة بولتزر مرتين.
إليوت كارتر أقدم مؤلف موسيقي في العصر الحديث من المجموعة التي ولدت قبل الحرب العالمية الثانية. منذ أواخر الأربعينات تعلق بالرأي غير التقليدي أن الموسيقى لابد أن تتكون من عدة طبقات وتكون مليئة بالتيارات المتقابلة المعقدة لكن فقط حينها يمكن أن تكون حقيقية بالنسبة لتعقيد الحياة الحديثة. في موسيقاه في الثمانينات والتسعينات التراكب تضاءلت لكن التفكير وراءها كان سريع وراقي مثل السابق

حياته وموسيقاه
ولد كارتر في نيويورك من أسرة ثرية تعمل في توريد الحرير التي قضت معظم الوقت في اوروبا. بعد التعرف على الموسيقى الجديدة خلال تشارلز آيفز انضم إلى الخط الطويل من المؤلفين الأمريكيين الذين درسوا مع ناديا بولانجر المقيمة في باريس والتي تناص الاتجاه الكلاسيكي المجدد. وفي اواخر الاربعينات عانى كارتر من ازمة ابداعية جعلته يتخلى عن موقفه الكلايسيكي المجدد الامريكي لصالح الحداثة. حتى الثمانيات والتسعينات اشتهر في اوروبا اكثر من امريكا لكن مؤخرا ادركت المؤسسية الامريكية ان لديها استاذ بارع في الاتجاه الحديث يعيش بينها.[1]
