Platynereis هو جنس من الديدان الحلقية البحرية.^[2] وتعيش في المياه البحرية الساحلية من المناطق المعتدلة إلى المدارية. ويمكن العثور عليها في نطاق واسع من جزر الآزور، البحر المتوسط وبحر الشمال والقنال الإنگليزي والمحيط الأطلسي نزولاً إلى رأس الرجاء الصالح، وفي البحر الأسود والبحر الأحمر والخليج العربي وبحر اليابان والمحيط الهادي وجزر كرگيلن.^[3] Platynereis dumerilii هو اليوم حيوان معملي هام،^[4] وتعتبر أحفورة حية، ^[5]^[6]^[7] وتُستخدم في العديد من الدراسات علم الوراثة العرقي كعضية نموذجية. وتعيش Platynereis dumerilii لمدة 3 إلى 18 شهر^[4] ويبلغ طول الذكر 2 إلى 3 سم، بينما يبلغ طول الأنثى 3 إلى 4 سم.^[8]
