سحاب قوسي

السحاب القوسي Arcus cloud هو نوع منخفض أفقي من أنواع السحاب، ويوجد منه نوعان: سحاب صدفي وسحاب الرول (الأسطوانة المتدحرجة). Roll clouds و shelf clouds are the two main types of arcus. Arcus clouds most frequently form along the leading edge or "gust fronts" of thunderstorm outflow; some of the most dramatic arcus formations mark the gust fronts of derecho-producing convective systems. Roll clouds may also arise in the absence of thunderstorms, forming along the shallow cold air currents of some sea breeze boundaries and cold fronts.

 السحاب الصدفي

سحاب صدفي فوق هولندا

الغيوم الصدفية هي غيوم تشبه غيوم السمحاق أو الركام المتوسط اللوزية الشكل، وتترك بهذه الغيوم من قطيرات ماء دقيقة أو من جزئيات جليد كروية، وهي من الغيوم النادر رؤيتها، ولكن من الممكن رؤيتها في أجواء اسكتلندا واسكندنافيا، كما تشاهد أحياناً في أجواء فرنسا وألاسكا، وتشير القياسات التي أجريت إلى أن ارتفاع هذه الغيوم فوق النرويج الشمالية بحدود 21-30 كم.
