هفستيون صديق الإسكندر الأكبر وأكفأ قادته

هفستيون Hephaestion هو أعز أصدقاء الإسكندر الأكبر . وكان الإسكندر يحبه حباً بلغ من شدته أنه حين دخلت زوجة دارا خيمة الملك الفاتح وانحنت أولاً لهفستيون احتراماً له لظنها أنه هو الإسكندر، قال لها الملك الشاب في رقة ولطف: "إن هفستيون هو أيضاً إسكندر" وكأنما أراد بقوله هذا أنه هو وهفستيون رجل واحد. وكثيراً ما كان الرجلان يشتركان في خيمة واحدة، وكانا في الحرب يقاتلان جنباً إلى جنب. وأحس الملك بعد موته أن نصفه قد انتزع منه، فأحزنه ذلك وفت في عضده ، وقضى عدة ساعات ملقى على جثة صديقه يبكي وينتحب؛ واقتلع شعره من فرط الحزن، وأبى أن يتناول شيئاً من الطعام عدة أيام متوالية، وحكم بالإعدام على الطبيب الذي ترك الشاب المريض ليشهد الألعاب العامة ، وأمر أن تكرم ذكرى هفستيون بإقامة محرقة جنائزية ضخمة بلغت نفقاتها كما يقولون عشرة آلاف وزنة (000ر000ر60 ريال أمريكي) وبعث يسأل عرافاً من أمون هل يجوز أن يُتخذ هفستيون إلهاً يُعبد؟ وأمر في الوقائع الحربية التي دارت بعدئذ أن تقتل قبيلة على بكرة أبيها قرباناً لروح هفستيون.
