البروسيليةBrucellosis. مرض معدٍ يصاب به الناس على مستوى العالم كله، ويصيب الإنسان والحيوان. ينتج هذا المرض عن طريق بكتيريا تسمى البروسيلية.
الحامل الأساسي لمرض البروسيلية الحيوانات المستأنسة مثل الأبقار والماعز والخنازير. وتعتبر الخراف وخنازير غينيا والدجاج والكلاب أقل المصادر لنقل العدوى. يصيب البروسيلية أيضًا الحيوانات البرية؛ كالثور والجاموس، والكاريبو والشمواه والغزال والأيل وحيوان الإلكة والثعالب والجاموس وأيِّل الرنة.

يمكن ظهور مرض البروسيلية في الإنسان نتيجة لتناول منتجات الألبان الملوثة بميكروب البروسيلة أو بالعمل في أماكن الحيوانات المصابة أو أكل لحومها غير الناضجة. وهذا المرض شائع بين العاملين في المجازر والأطباء والجراحين البيطريين، وبين مربي المواشي والمزارعين. يدخل الميكروب الجسم من خلال الجلد أو الفم. وربما يستنشق عمال المجازر الميكروبات المتناثرة في الجو.
تنتج معظم حالات الإصابة في الإنسان بمرض البروسيلية عن طريق الاختلاط المباشر بالحيوانات الحاملة للعدوى. ومن أفضل الطرق لتجنب إصابة الإنسان بهذا المرض التحكم في المرض عندما يصيب الحيوانات. وقد قل هذا المرض بصورة واضحة في الأبقار عن طريق حقن العجول باللقاح، وقتل الحيوانات الكبيرة الحاملة للميكروب. وقد قلل تعقيم الألبان من حدوث مرض البروسيلية الناتج عن اللبن الملوث.
الأعراض
ومن أعراض مرض البروسيلية ارتفاع درجة الحرارة، والشعور بعدم الارتياح وكذلك الضعف العام وانخفاض الوزن. يعرف هذا المرض أيضاً بالحمى المتموجة والحمى المالطية.
العلاج والوقاية
يعالج الأطباء مرض البروسيلية بنجاح عن طريق أحد المضادات الحيوية المتعددة، التي من بينها ريفامبسين والتتراسيكلين والإستربتومايسين. وقد يعاني المرضى من انتكاسات مَرَضِية. وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، فقد يستمر المرض لعدة شهور أو سنين قبل أن يتم التشخيص السليم وبالتالي علاجه علاجاً سليماً.

- In A. J. Cronin's Shannon's Way, the hero devotes most of the time scale of the novel to research establishing a link between brucellosis in humans and a particular infection in milk, only to find that his results have been anticipated.
- In Flannery O'Connor's short story "The Enduring Chill," the protagonist Asbury is diagnosed with undulant fever. In an act of defiance against what he considers his mother's overbearing ways, he violates a strict rule on her dairy farm by drinking raw milk. The brucellosis he contracts reduces him to an invalid dependent on his mother's care.
- It was also mentioned in All Things Bright and Beautiful, one volume in the memoirs of James Herriot, the pen name of Scottish veterinarian James Alfred Wight. In this case, the disease ruined an aspiring dairy farmer's herd and forced him to abandon the business. Wight also describes the effect of brucellosis on himself, referring to it as having "funny turns," in his fifth volume of memoirs, "Every Living Thing."
- The song "Play it All Night Long" from Warren Zevon's Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School references brucellosis (probably the only popular song to do so).
- Hillary Clinton was offered a fermented milk drink while traveling on a state trip through Mongolia when she was First Lady. When her personal physician found out she had accepted the drink, he ordered her to take a strong course of antibiotics to protect against the risk of brucellosis.[بحاجة لمصدر]
