مارسل موس ( Marcel Mauss ؛ بالفرنسية: [mos]؛ 10 مايو 1872 – 10 فبراير 1950)، هو ابن أخت إميل دوركايم وولد مثله بـإبينال. اهتمّ بموضوعات كثيرة دون أن يستقصيها إذ أن فضوله الفكري كان يحمله على الانتقال من موضوع إلى موضوع بسرعة شديدة. بيد أن تلاميذه استأنفوا بعض أعماله غير المنجزة وأبانوا ما فيها من الخواطر السديدة والأراء الحصيفة. كما يجدر الإشارة إلى أن أعمال كلود ليفي ستروس استفادت كثيرًا من بعض نصوص موس. بعد أن حصل موس على التبريز في الفلسفة بدأ في تأليف أطروحة عن الصلاة لم يكملها قط (وجمعت ونشرت أجزاء منها). ثم شارك في تأسيس معهد الإثنولوجيا في باريس وعين أستاذًا في الكوليج دو فرانس، حيث تتلمذ له كثير من مشاهير العلماء الفرنسيين اللاحقين في هذا المجال. لا نجد له كتابًا كاملا من تأليفه ولكن ألف مقالات كثيرة إما مع علماء آخرين إما وحده. منها:

كما أن إحدى تلاميذه جمعت مدونات الدروس التي ألقاها موس في معهد الإثنولوجيا فنشرت تحت عنوان "موجز في الإثنوغرافيا" (1947) فمن تلك المواد المتفرقة يمكننا أن نستخلص بعض الاتجاهات العامة في منهج موس.

منهجه

الإنسان حسب موس ظاهرة كلية ينبغي أن تدرس من كل زواياها وجوانبها لفهم كيف يتمفصل الفردي والجماعي. فالسباحة مثلا، كغيرها من تقنيات الجسد، لا يمكن فصلها عن المجتمع إذ لا تتعلق بالجسد فقط بل بالطرق تعليم هده التقنية وهي مؤسسات جماعية. فدراسة مثل هذه الظاهرة تخبرنا عن الطرق التي بها يندرج الفرد في المجتمع. كما أن مفهوم الفرد نفسه ليس معطى طبيعيًّا أوليٌّا بل له تاريخ يتلاقى فيه الطبيعي والثقافي والفردي والجماعي. في رسالته في العطاء أثبت موس أن التبادل لا يخضع للضرورات الاقتصادية فقط بل يُستعمل لإنشاء علاقات دبلوماسية أو سياسية أو قانونية كما أن له في بعض المجتمعات وظائفَ دينية وأبعادًا سياسية. فهذه أمثلة معدودة لمقاربة موس للظواهر الاجتماعية ورفضه أن يحصرها في مجال علمي واحد إذ الإنسان حسب رأيه ظاهرة كلية لا تجوز تجزئتها.
