أمها يهودية رومانية اسمها نتالي واينستاين-بقال، ولدى هجرتها إلى الولايات المتحدة غيرت اسم العائلة، في جزيرة إليس، إلى باكال. وهي ابنه خالة، من الدرجة الأولى، للرئيس التاسع لإسرائيل شيمون پـِرِس.
