وصلة الألياف الضوئية البحرية بين قبرص واليونان تحمل الاسم كيموناس، تخليداً لذكرى الجنرال الأثيني الشهير، كيمون (من القرن الخامس ق.م.)، الذي قاد حملة لتحرير قبرص من الغزاة. الانتصارات المتتالية لقوات كيمون في قبرص، بعد وفاته مباشرة، كانت سبباً في العبارة الشهيرة عن الجنرال الأثيني "مات متميزاً بإنجازاته".
