Basic usage
This template uses information from the NASA Solar Eclipse Database when invoked using the following syntax
{{Infobox solar eclipse|YYYYMonDD}}
Here, YYYY
is the year, Mon
is the three letter abbreviation for the month, and DD
is the two digit abbreviation for the day. For example, 2015Mar20
for March 20, 2015.
Advanced usage
{{Infobox solar eclipse|YYYYMonDD |date = <!-- {{Start date|YYYY|MM|DD}} --> |image = |caption = |map = |map_caption = |type_ref = |nature = |gamma = |magnitude = |saros = |saros_sequence = |saros_total = |max_eclipse_ref = |duration = |location = |coords = <!-- {{Coord|NNNNN|NNNNN|type:landmark|display=inline,title}} --> |max_width = <!-- {{Convert|NNNNN|km|abbr=on}} --> |times_ref = |start_partial = |start_total = |start_central = |greatest_eclipse = |end_central = |end_total = |end_partial = }}
nature should be "Total", "Annular", "Hybrid" or "Partial" (without speechmarks).
Microformat
The HTML mark up produced by this template includes an hCalendar microformat, which makes the event details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue article across Wikipedia, or via a browser tool operated by a person, to (for example) add the subject to a calendar or diary applciation. Within the hCalendar is a Geo microformat, which additionally makes the coordinates (latitude & longitude) parsable, so that they can be, say, looked up on a map, or downloaded to a GPS unit. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.
Dates will only appear if you use {{Start date}} or {{End date}} (use the former for single dates).
hCalendar uses HTML classes including:
- "dtend"
- "dtstart"
- "location"
- "summary"
- "vevent"
Geo is produced by calling {{coord}}, and uses HTML classes:
- "geo"
- "latitude"
- "longitude"
Please do not rename or remove these classes.
When giving coordinates, please don't be overly precise.
