بحثاً عن الزمن الضائع In Search of Lost Time or Remembrance of Things Past (فرنسية: À la recherche du temps perdu) هي رواية للكاتب مارسل بروست تتكون من سبعة أجزاء ألفها ما بين 1905 و1910.القصة الكاملة تحتوي على ما يقرب من 1.5 مليون كلمة، وهي واحدة من أطول الروايات في الأدب العالمي.

أعطته روايته الطويلة الموسومة بعنوان "بحثا عن الزمن الضائع" شهرة عالمية واسعة كونه أبدع فيها في تصوير الأحاسيس والمشاعر الإنسانية بدقة متناهية بحيث خلدت هذه الرواية مؤلفها بروست وجعلته في مصاف الأدباء الكبار في العالم. وتعد اليوم من أمهات الرواية الحديثة في أوروبا لأنها ليست (رواية) بالمعنى الأكاديمي للاصطلاح الكلاسيكي لهذه الكلمة، وهي كذلك لا تدخل في أبجدية الاعترافات والمذكرات لأن راويها يسرد أحداثاً موضوعية تاريخية تكاد تكون معيشة وهي أيضاً لا تريد أن تكون معرضاً لكشف أسرار حياة مؤلفها، عبر قصة لسيرته الشخصية ولذكرياته وفكره وذوقه، بل كانت معرضاً للعالم الخارجي الذي عاشه وعرفه بعمق ورسمه بقلم موغل في التحليل والتركيب. وهي ليست رواية التصوير الصادق لمجتمع من المجتمعات الباريسية قبيل الحرب العالمية الأولى وخلالها، بل على العكس هي أول رواية لم تصور (الواقع) بل صورت ضرباً من الحلم الواعي الدقيق في توصيفه، وانطوت على فترات من الزمن ينزلق بعضها في بعض ليختلط ويمتزج وينصهر في عالم الذكريات، لتقدم الرواية للقارئ نظرة جديدة للكون والوجود وتصوراً جديداً للحياة والإنسان بعد إتمام قراءتها.‏

ولقد جازف (مارسيل بروست) بحياته في سبيل تحرير هذه الرواية وأنفق على نشرها من أمواله الخاصة بعد أن رفضت دار (غاليمار) طبعها لما فيها من خروج على المألوف الروائي السائد في حينه، وكان (اندريه جيد) يومئذٍ على رأس إدارتها وهو من هو كاتباً روائياً كلاسيكياً. ويبدو أن ذلك الحدس الذي هجس بأن الرواية ستكون فناً (عالمياً) يهدف إلى أن يسيطر على الفنون الأدبية ويحسر ظلها باستعارته ميزاتها الأساسية وأدواتها التعبيرية في طريقه الآن إلى التصديق تأسيساً على القفزات الهائلة التي تطالعنا بها الرواية بشكل مستمر على خريطة الأدب العالمي بلغاته الحيَّة المنتشرة.

بدأ المترجم السوري إلياس بديوي، رحمه الله، ترجمة هذا العمل الروائي الكبير منذ ثمانينيات القرن الماضي، وأصدر منه ثلاثة مجلدات (الثاني والثالث والرابع)، وتوفاه الله قبل أن يتمها، وقد بدأ المشروع بدافع منه، وبدون دعم مالي من أحد، إلا الدعم المعنوي الذي قدمته الدكتورة نجاح العطار وزيرة الثقافة السورية السابقة، وبعض ممن تولوا مسئولية النشر فيها وفي مقدمتهم مثقفان كبيران، انطون مقدسي وأديب اللجمي رحمهما الله.
