سير إدوارد بيرنت تايلور (2 أكتوبر 1832 – 2 يناير 1917)، هو أنثروپولوجي إنگليزي ومؤسس الأنثروپولوجيا الثقافية.

تايلور هو ممثل التطور الثقافي. في أعماله الثقافة البدائية والأنثروپولوجيا، حدد سياق الدراسة العلمية للأنثروپولوجيا، معتمداً على نظريات التطور لتشارلز ليل. كان يعتقد أن هناك أساس وظيفي لتطور المجتمع والدين، والذي وصفه بأنه عالمي. اعتبر تايلور من قبل الكثيرين شخصية مؤسسة لعلم الأنثروپولوجيا الاجتماعية، وساعدت أعماله البحثية على بناء تخصص الأنثروپولوجيا في القرن التاسع عشر. كان يعتقد أن "البحث في تاريخ وما قبل تاريخ البشر ... يمكن استخدامه كقاعدة لإصلاح المجتمع البريطاني."

أعاد تايلور طرح مصطلح الإحيائية (الإيمان بوجود الروح في كل الأشياء، والظواهر الطبيعية) إلى الاستخدام العام. اعتبر أن الإحيائية هي أولى مراحل تطور الأديان.
