يان أسمان Jan Assmann (وُلِد 7 يوليو 1938) هو عالم مصريات ألماني، وُلِد في لانگلزهايم.

التعليم والتدريس
ذهب إلى المدرسة في لوبك وهايدلبرگ قبل أن يذهب لدراسة علم المصريات، علم الآثار الكلاسيكية والدراسات اليونانية في ميونخ، هايدلبرگ، باريس وگوتنگن. كان أستاذ علم المصريات في جامعة هايدلبرگ من 1976 إلى 2003، وهو الآن في جامعة كونستانز. بالاضافة لذلك، فهو يعمل كأستاذ زائر في باريس (كلية فرنسا، École Pratique des Hautes Études, EHESS)، القدس (الجامعة العبرية، أبراشية دورمتيون) والولايات المتحدة (جامعة يل، جامعة هيوستن، جامعة شيكاغو).
عمله الأثري
منذ 1967 he has been conducting archaeological fieldwork in Western Thebes (on officials’ graves dating back to the Saite period and the time of the Ramesses). وقد ألـّف عدة كتب ومقالات عن الديانة والتاريخ والأدب والفن المصري. He has also published comparative studies focusing on النظرية الثقافية (الذاكرة الثقافية Das kulturelle Gedächtnis) والدين (Monotheismus und Kosmotheismus). Jan Assmann is a member of the أكاديمية هايدلبرگ، المعهد الأثري الألماني، معهد علم الإنسان التاريخي، جمعية استكشاف مصر والجمعية الفرنسية لعلم المصريات. He is also a member of various advisory committees including those of the Institute for Cultural Studies in Essen, the Research Institute of the Protestant University Community and the Centre for Cultural Studies in Stuttgart.
كتاباته عن الديانات المصرية والأخرى
يقترح أسمان أن الديانة المصرية القديمة كان لها تأثير هائل على اليهودية أكبر مما يُعترف بها عموماً. He used the term "normative inversion" to suggest that some aspects of Judaism were formulated in direct reaction to Egyptian practices and theology. He ascribed the principle of normative inversion to a principle established by مانيتو which was used by موسى بن ميمون in his references to the Sabians. لاقى كتابه ثمن التوحيد The Price of Monotheism بعض الانتقادات لفكرته The Mosaic Distinction.[1]
