مأساة معبد الشمس
مأساة "معبد الشمس" Order of the Solar Temple في العام 1994 حيث انتحر 54 شخصاً في وقت واحد في كل من سويسرا وكندا من حركات دينية متطرفة وظهرت هذه الحركات في ولاية كاليفورنيا، مثل حركة "بوابة السماء" التي ارتكب أتباعها جريمة الانتحار الجماعي. ومن هذه الحركات أيضاً الكنيسة العلمية التي أصبحت من أكبر الكنائس في أميركا. وكنيسة المسيح الدولي في لوس أنجلوس. وفي إحصاء أميركي أن ثمة 2000 حركة دينية من هذا النوع في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية.
وقد وصلت هذه الحركات إلى آسيا وخصوصاً إلى كوريا الجنوبية. كما وصلت إلى أوروبا فبلغ عددها في بريطانيا وحدها 1600 مجموعة. وكان من مظاهرها . ومأساة "گرنوبل" في فرنسا حيث انتحر 16 فرنسياً من أتباع هذه الحركة.
