 Purpose

This template is intended to be used on year in country categories (for example, تصنيف:2008 في كندا أو تصنيف:1538 في إنگلترة). It creates a "timeline" style table of links to categories for adjacent years before or after it in the same decade (see example below).

 Syntax

 Parameters

The first 4 parameters split the year of the category page receiving the template into separate pieces. They are used to form the timeline links.

• The first one is the millennium: leave this blank for years in the first millennium.
• The second parameter is the century
• The third is the decade
• The fourth is the year-digit

  The single-digit values of these 4 parameters, taken together ("mcdy"), form the four-digit year. If the year is before 1000 (and thus only 3 digits long) or even earlier, parameters can be omitted, as necessary.

The next three parameters indicate the country and its continents

• The fifth parameter is the country name as indicated in the category name (but without prefixes which are unwanted for sorting, these should be added to the 8th parameter)
• The sixth parameter is the continent where the country is located
• The seventh parameter is optional: if a country is located in two continents (mainly for countries in Europe and Asia, like Russia or Turkey), then a second continent can be included here. The order of the two continents is not important. This seventh parameter can also be used with member states of المملكة المتحدة (استخدم "المملكة المتحدة")، الاتحاد السوڤيتي السابق ("الاتحاد السوڤيتي")، أو يوغسلاڤيا السابقة ("يوغسلاڤيا").

• The 8th parameter is used for sorting of countries which start with "The" (or other prefixes like "Former Yugoslav Republic of "): this can be left empty for most countries. When included please make sure to add a space after the prefix
