العصب القحفي الصفري أو العصب الطرفي cranial nerve zero ، هو عصب اكتشفه العالم الألماني گوستاف فريتش عام 1878 في مخ القروش. وكان أول اكتشف له في البشر عام 1913,[1] على الرغم من أن وجوده في البشر لا يزال مثيرا للجدل. ومع ذلك، بينت الدراسات على شيوع وجود الأعصاب القحفية الصفرية في مخ الإنسان البالغ.[2].

بالرغم من وجوده بالقرب من[3] (وعادة ما يخلط بينه ويعتقد أنه فرع من) العصب الشمي, فإن العصب الصفري لا يتصل بالبصلة الشمية, حيث يتم تحليل الروائح. This fact suggests that the nerve is either vestigial or may be related to the sensing of pheromones. This hypothesis is further supported by the fact that nerve zero projects to the medial and lateral septal nuclei, and the preoptic areas, all of which are involved in regulating sexual behavior in mammals.[1]
