View of the city of Yang-tcheou, in the Province of Che-kian, showing a temple, a monument, a fort, and part of the city walls. In the foreground, there is a tower, at the top of which soldiers are holding their shields in front of the embrasures, as a compliment to the British ambassador Lord Macartney, who is presumably in the boat; on the river, there are other sailing vessels. Image taken from The Costume of China, illustrated in forty-eight coloured engravings, published in London in 1805.
