⧼wm-license-information-date⧽ before 1938. en:Ruth Etting divorced her first husband who was also her manager, in 1937 and subsequently stopped recording and appearing in films. Also in the same year, her ex-husband threatened to kill Etting, his daughter from a previous marriage who lived with Etting, and her pianist, whom she would subsequently marry during her ex-husband's trial for attempted murder. Her pianist was shot by her ex-husband in Etting's Los Angeles home. Many stories about the three principals, which were shocking for the times, came to light during the trial of the ex-husband. As a result, Etting's career was in a shambles. She did not attempt performing again until the late 1940s.
