ompositions of the masters. Mr. Henry is constantly widening his out-look and enlarging his repertoire. Each seasonadds to his influence as teacher and interpreter. XVIIIHENRY HOLDEN HUSS ELIMINATION OF MECHANICAL ETUDES Henry Holden Huss, American pianist, composer, teacher, belongs to a musical fam-ily. His father was long a beacon light amongthe teachers of a former generation, he himselfhas made an honorable career in his chosen pro-fession. His musical studies were begun withhis father and continued with Rheinberger inMunich. He also studied theory with O. B.Boise. He is well known as an excellent pian-ist, thorough teacher, and is the author of anumber of ambitious compositions in the largerforms. It is a pleasure to confer with so enthusiastica thinker on pianistic problems as HenryHolden Huss. I believe in hobbies, said Mr. Huss, withcharacteristic animation and conviction; weall have them. I dont mean hobby-horses, ofcourse, for they constantly move, but never getanywhere. 208
