وصف قصير

⧼wm-license-information-description⧽
English: This mausoleum was built in 1481 by Mehmet the Conqueror for his father, Murat II. According to the latter’s last will this structure was not covered to let the rain in, and with a surrounding gallery for disciples to memorize the Qur’an. Without using a sarcophagus the sultan’s body was buried directly in the soil, and he is the sole one buried here. The door wings are of exceptional craftsmanship. The columns’ pedestals and capitals are both of the Byzantine era.

Bonded to the mausoleum’s east wall there’s the mausoleum of Sultan Alaaddin, Prince Ahmet (sons of Murat II) and of Hatice Sultan and Princess Hatun, his daughters.

During a 2013 restoration 19th century baroque decorations, plastered and painted over the original ones, were removed and the original decoration was restored.
