وصف قصير

⧼wm-license-information-description⧽
English: Margam Castle and a carving of a dragon. Margam castle was built between 1830 and 1840 by Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot (the namesake of nearby Port Talbot). This Tudor Gothic mansion was famous for its sculptures and carved woodwork paneling for many years until on August 4th, 1977 it was gutted by a massive fire. The stone shell survived and today, after some restoration most of the interior is now restored, though sadly, little of the original splendour of the paneling now adorns the bare stone interior walls save one tiny example in the magnificent room that contains the staircase.

The carving in the foreground is by Nansi Heming and as known as Yew Dragon. It was commissioned by the Welsh woodfest organisers as part of the first South wales woodfest in 2005. Originally it was a rich red in colour but a couple of years of pollution now leave it a dull grey.

Another example of Nansi's work found near her home in Lampeter can be found at 579429.
