English: The Big Photo Show, an expo and workshop program held at Los Angeles Convention Center on 4-5 May 2013, included some opportunities for hands-on exercises taught by instructors from sponsoring vendors.
This particular exercise was themed around Film Noir type effects for portraits. The goal is to have harsher lighting (the studio lights were not diffused at all) and sharper shadows. Initial setting was at ISO 200, 1/125 sec, F/5.6, but with changing studio setup ISO was cranked up a bit later and other values slightly adjusted. This was also my first-ever experience shooting in a studio setting with professional models. The models were in 1930s period costumes and props, for a Great Gatsby-ish vibe, and in this pose they are trying to portray a love triangle. From left to right: Heather, Tyler, and Nicole. |
