English: Coat of arms of the former Sønderborg county of Denmark. Granted 1960. The arms shows the famous mill at Dybbøl which marks an important battle ground in the 19th century Second Schleswig War and became a symbol of Danish identity during the 1864-1920 German occupation of Northern Schleswig. The wheat garbs symbolise a stanza from a patriotic Danish song ("Danmarks hvede, Danmarks rug, Dybbøl Mølle maler" / "Danish wheat and Danish rye is milled by Dybbøl Mill"). The colours are those of the national flag of Denmark.
