Viera y Clavijo, en su ya varias veces citada obra, tras señalar que el escudo de Canarias "representa en siete peña sobre ondas azules site Islas, y en el Gefe unas letras de oro que dice: "Océano", asegura que esta descripción aparece por vez primera en un libro intitulado Auto de fe celebrado en Madrid el año de 1632, cuyo autor es Juan García (sic) de Mora, y que incluye una lámina con las armas de los reinos y principales ciudades de España, grabado por Francisco Navarro. [...] el Plano de las Islas de Canaria, realizado por Francisco Javier Machado Fiesco en 1762, donde las islas aparecen ya de perfil, y la voz Océano en el jefe... Sánchez Badiola.
