English: A 210polonium fueled SNAP-3 Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator (RTG) with the vent tube for the helium4 decay product on the right. Made at Mound Laboratory in 1958, the heat source was 96 thermal watts at birth. Po-210 has a half life of 138 days and a thermal output of 140 watts/gram. None were flown in space but the 238plutonium SNAP-3B version was aboard a Navy Transit navigational satellite launched on June 29, 1961, the first RTG in space.
