سوكراتيا إكسوريزا Socratea exorrhiza أو Walking Palm أو Cashapona، هي نوع من أشجار النخيل الإستوائية تنمو في أمريكا الجنوبية والوسطى. ويمكن أن تنمو إلى إرتفاع 25 متر، ويصل قطر جذعها إلى أكثر من 17 سم. تمتد جذورها إلى عمق التربة، ولم يتم تحديد وظيفتها بدقة حتى الآن. وجدت الكثير من أنواع النباتات الهوائي نامية على هذا النوع من النخيل. يتم تلقيحها بواسطة الخنافس، والكائنات المختلفة التي تستهلك الجذور أو الشتلات.

 وظيفة الجذور الطويلة

How the stilt roots allow it to right itself after other plants collapse on it. 1 - the palm is growing normally. 2 - a tree collapses onto the palm and flattens the stem. 3 - new stilt roots form along the old stem and the original roots (dashed lines) start to die. 4 - the palm continues to grow normally but has now moved away from where it originally germinated
