The Permian through Jurassic strata of the Colorado Plateau area of southeastern Utah that makes up much of the famous prominent rock formations in widely-spaced protected areas such as Capitol Reef National Park and Canyonlands National Park. قاعدة الاستمرارية الأفقية Principle of lateral continuity، هي قاعدة تنص على أن الطبقات الرسوبية عندما تترسب في البداية، فإنها تكون أجساما ثلاثية الأبعاد تنتشر في كل الاتجاهات، ثم ترق تدريجيا حتى تتلاشى على حواف حوض الترسيب.[1]
