i Icomb Place. 181 Icomb descended to his brother Eustace (2nd. Jac. I.)1 The latterleft it to his son Sir Robert Whitney, who married Anne, daughterof Sir Thomas Lucy, of Charlecot. From this Sir Robert, the placeappears to have passed to W. Cope (benefactor of Icomb andStow) on the marriage of Thomas Whitney, Esq., fourth son ofSir Robert, with Elizabeth, daughter of W. Cope and Lady Eliza-beth, daughter of the first Earl of Westmoreland. Elizabeth, relictof Thomas Whitney, was married to her second husband, SergeantGears. Their daughter, Elizabeth Gears, was married—first, toWilliam Gregory, whose son William, inherited a moiety ofIcomb, which descended to John Stackhouse, who sold it for£11050 to Henry Stokes of London, wine merchant, who sold toCambray and others—secondly, to Rich.
