Sometimes social ambitions,and a desire to excel others in wit and good breeding, as well asstation in life, are found in generous, high, pure natures. Notice theIf s in Plate 50 ; the first pinnacle is twice the height of those following.This sign, added to the egotistic curl, denotes a haughty nature : I think Myself better than you are. But when the egotistic curl is wholly absent, as in the Plate, the sign is merely an indication ofgreat self-respect, a consciousness of superiority, without weak vanity,and a taste for brilliant associations.
