Unakoti is a small district in Agartala. The district has been given its name on the famous heritage site which is said to be of 7th to 9th century. The locals believe that lord Shiva came here along with other gods to stay for a night. The total no of gods was one cror which in sanskrit is called Koti. As per the story, next day morning only lord shiva got up and rest of the gods kept sleeping despite it being time to move ahead. Lord Shiva made all of them of stone and left the place alone. The place got its name as Una means One less.. hence one less in one Crore called UNAKOTI. No of stone images of gods are found here and place is a mesmerizing one as one feels to be in the company of devine
