The Velodrome hosted track cycling and field hockey events. It operated until 1968. In that year it was discontinued because of problems to its foundations. It remained inactive for 40 years until its demolition by implosion on 24 July 2008.

The Olympic Velodrome at the EUR quarter of Rome was built between 1958 and 1960 for the 17th Olympic Games which took place in Rome in 1960. It hosted the track cycling and field hockey events during the Olympic Games, and later was used until 1968 before being closed because of problems to its foundations. It was imploded on 24 July 2008.

ITALIANO: Il Velodromo Olimpico sorgeva a Roma, nel quartiere dell’EUR; costruito tra il 1958 e il 1960, ospitò le gare di ciclismo su pista e di hockey su prato dei Giochi della XVII Olimpiade che si tennero nel 1960 a Roma. Dopo le Olimpiadi il Velodromo fu utilizzato per gare di ciclismo su pista fino al 1968, anno in cui dissesti delle fondamenta consigliarono di non utilizzare più la struttura, che per quarant’anni rimase in stato di degrado fino alla sua demolizione con cariche esplosive avvenuta il 24 luglio 2008.
