English: Rogue waves (freak waves, killer waves) - abnormally high waves that occur in the open ocean and are dangerous for shipping. Unlike tsunamis, gaining their destructive force in shallow water, rogue waves appear where the depth is significant. To simulate rogue waves, a Nonlinear Schrödinger's Equation (NLSE) is used, various simplifying assumptions allow different models to be built. The figure shows the simulation result obtained by reducing the NLSE to an ordinary differential equation for the wave amplitude and solving this equation with different initial conditions ^{[1] [2]}. A slight change in the initial conditions makes it possible to constuct a wave of unusual height instead of the usual wave "swell". The parameters of the model are selected in such a way that the result roughly corresponds to the parameters of the huge wave recorded in 1995 at the Dropner oil platform, located about 100 nautical miles off the coast of Norway
