English: Painted oak mortuary chest, c. 1425–1450, used to contain royal bones of the Kingdom of Wessex at Winchester Cathedral (now held in the chests placed on top of the side screens of the presbytery). This one has a scroll on one side reading "HIC REX EGBERT PAVSAT CVM REGE KYNVLPHO" = "Here rests King Egbert (Ecgberht of Wessex, r. 802–839) with King Kenulph (Cynewulf of Wessex, r. 757–786). On display at an exhibition inside Winchester Cathedral.
