The Chicago & North Western Historical Society's "Minneapolis & St. Louis Railroad - A Capsule History" mentions "the repainting of the diesels and freight cars in the striking red and white scheme around 1956" and that the M&StL was bought by the Chicago & Northwestern in 1960. So this logo was first in use on train cars before 1960 in any case, and there is no evidence of copyright messages on train cars.
