Fr. Creeden, Noted Jesuit, Dies in Boston. (From Thursday's Eagle) Lenox, Massachusetts. Rev. John B. Creeden, S.J., noted Roman Catholic educator and a, former president of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., died today at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston. Fr. Creeden, who was 77, suffered a stroke Sunday He was formerly spiritual counselor at Cranwell Preparatory School and at Shadowbrook, the Jesuit Novitiate here. Born in Arlington, Fr. Creeden was an outstanding school, administrator for almost a half century. He studied at Boston College and entered the Society of Jesus in Frederick, Maryland, in 1890 and later he studied at Woodstock College in Maryland where he was ordained in 1905 by Cardinal Gibbons. He taught at Fordham University in New York from 1906 to 1908 and then spent a year studying in Linz, Austria. From 1909 to 1918 Fr. Creeden was dean of the College of Arts and Science at Georgetown University and from 1918 to 1924 he was president of Georgetown University. Subsequently he taught psychology for two years at Boston College and in 1927 he founded the Boston College Law School of which he was regent for 12 years. From 1939 to 1941 he was spiritual counselor at Cranwell School and from 1941 to 1947 he was spiritual counselor at Shadowbrook. In 1947 he was named spiritual counselor at Weston College. He leaves three sisters. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at Weston College.
