The oldest part of the building is the thirteenth century chancel, built in early English style with stone vaulting. There is a roof boss in the centre depicting foliage dating from the mid-thirteenth century. The east window is a seven lancet, with stained-glass based on the Te Deum. There are several medieval misericords and some bench ends and poppy heads. The church has two towers; the eastern tower is a slim polygonal tower at the north-east end the church. It was not part of the original chancel, but predates the nave. It may have been built as a bell tower or a beacon tower. The nave was built in 1435, along with the western tower of 124 feet. This was funded from the success of Blakeney as a port. There are north and south aisles with six bay arcades. The north east end of the nave has a Chapel which now commemorates the fallen from the First World War. There is a fifteenth century hammerbeam roof with carved Angels, and an octagonal font with Evangelists, Prophets, and Shields with the instruments of the passion. There are several stained-glass windows including some mediaeval glass. There is a two manual organ with north and south cases by Norman and Beard. |
