Detail Scheepvaarthuis, Prins Hendrikkade, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. One of six sculptures by Hildo Krop representing the Amsterdam shipping companies that occupied the building. Here: the Nieuwe Rijnvaart Maatschappij (NRM), a subsidiary of KNSM. The head represents the river Rhine. Left and right the contributaries Neckar and Main. Interwoven with the letters of these names is the hair of the Loreley, which is also the water of the Rhine poured from vessels. |
