I took this picture June 2006. It hangs in the interior of the ayuntamiento of San Cristobal de La Laguna, Tenerife, to which I was allowed access.

The painting is called La rendición al Adelantado ("The surrender to the Adelantado"). The caption read:

El año 1496 y día de la fiesta del glorioso Apóstol Santiago baxaron a donde estaba el Real de España, en lo alto de Taoro, el mencey Bencomo con los de Tacoronte, Anaga y Tegueste, acercándose con leñas de rendición y de paz. Salió a recibirles el Adelantado Alonso Fernández de Lugo con sus capitanes y nobles amigos y le dieron abraços en señal de amistad.
